It’s such an interesting album that we had to have a tour that said, “JUMP is very interesting”

For the production of the album, “PARADE”, it was an important task to conform to the worldview while also including the singles already released. I wanted to include challenging songs that could only be done with the album, but I also wanted to value the cute and catchy Johnny’s-like songs. That compatibility is always our challenge, but I think creating a worldview while maintaining this balance was pretty difficult.

At the song selection stage, I guess I sometimes asked about past songs like, “What about this song?”. For example, I wanted to include songs that had a worldview like “Boku wa Vampire” (2012). Through that process, the song that was selected that was Johnny’s-like and shows the worldview of the album is “Kemono to Bara”. I guess we could create something with a great atmosphere, such as choreography where we crawl on the ground and the worldview of the MV. There are many other songs that have a strong worldview, so there are a lot of ideas for how to show them live. However, the challenge is how to create a sense of unity based on that idea. I don’t want to leave the audience behind because we have too many challenges, so a sense of security is important, but I also want to try new challenges. Aiming for that perfect balance, I want to fill in the gaps as the real JUMP until the performance.

But I think if JUMP does it, it will come together naturally. When we listened to the demo, there were songs we couldn’t imagine, but when we heard our voices, I thought, “Oh! It’s JUMP!”. For example, “Hana Ichi Mono” ended up like what no one imagined. Personally, it’s an album and I think we should do more interesting songs like this. But at first, I had some inspiration and I wondered if there was somewhere I could put this essence. But because of the rearrangement, it became a really good song. Also in “UTAGE Tonight” I was worried that I couldn’t really get into it with my voice, but I feel the exciting atmosphere of the JUMP festival that comes out, and I think “Zombie Step” has a strange and good accent. It’s a line-up under the theme of “Strange parade”. By creating an image of a parade that has beasts and vengeful spirits, I think Yamada-san’s “bewitching” worldview was expanded and the hidden theme of “Hyakki Yagyo” could be properly expressed. (T/N: Hyakki Yagyo is an idiom in Japanese folklore that translates as Night Parade of One Hundred Demons. It refers to an uncontrolled number of supernatural creatures gathering together like oni and yokai. In English, it is similar to pandemonium.)

When I think of the word “PARADE”, I have the impression of marching in a uniform-like costume. I guess everyone thought of a “Pan-Paka-Pan♪” bright pop world (laughs). But that’s not interesting. This parade is surprisingly dark, and the Japanese-style is comical. I guess the expectation for the concert is going up and I’m asking how do I do this (laughs). It was such an interesting album, so in Taiwan we had the “Johnnyness” reconfirmed, and decided not to make an advanced live. I want to make a stage where everyone will think, “JUMP is pretty interesting!”, and we want you to enjoy the parade together where we live!
