They've always~ been together since they were little, before Hey! Say! JUMP was formed. Under a pleasant blue sky, the two talked about things that haven't changed since the past and things that have changed now that they've grown up. You have been, and will always be, special to me.
Yabu-style child-like mind

When I was in primary school, I was the kind of kid who would have "restless" written about them on my report card. I was always swaying during class, and at school assemblies I would scribble in the sand on the ground. Even now, I tear up the paper from straws (laughs).
I've always been someone who does what they want to do right away, even as a child. The essence of my personality hasn't changed. I still have fun with my classmates from primary school. I've never tried to consciously lose my "child-like mind", but I feel that it is still there naturally.
Perhaps "child-like mind" is a little like beginner's spirit. I've been in this world since I was a child, but I don't want to forget what it was like before I started working, or when I first started out.
The entertainment industry is a bit of a unique place, and if you don't hold onto those feelings, I feel like you'll be left behind by society. And that would mean that no one can relate to what you're trying to communicate.
So I spend my time riding trains, taking buses, going for walks, and cherishing my life in the way of a child.
Hikaru-style child-like mind

My favourite thing to do since I was a child has always been to make things. I've always loved to draw, and I was good at arts and crafts in school. I didn't like to copy things, I liked to draw what I had thought of in my head. I was also asked by my friends to draw popular characters. I guess I was like the class painter.
I don't remember how it happened, but there was one time I did a puppet show by myself in the morning homeroom. Everyone in the class laughed so much and I was so happy.
I lived in the countryside (T/N: Inaka), so the front door of every house was left unlocked. It was natural to walk in and say, "Grandma, can I have nuresenbei?" (T/N: Wet rice crackers), and it was the kind of area where that was OK. It was also normal to walk through your friend's garden as a shortcut. It was very free, wasn't it? I think it was a good town~
When I think of the "child-like mind" I still have, I think it's the freedom to think. I want to stay creative and imaginative. I want to keep the curiosity and the excitement of what could be, and I don't think it will ever go away.
Our adult-like mind
Yabu Kota

When I'm doing things that my parents used to do, like going to get my certificate of residence or sorting out receipts, I think, "I've become an adult too." It's realistic (laughs).
It was around 20 years old when I became aware of the need to behave like an adult. I think I realised that I had to take responsibility for my work.
I have to be aware of why I'm allowed to work in the position I'm in, and try to do better than that. If I don't, I won't have a good reputation. I try to be prepared so that I can give more than my potential.
Even if I have studied, gathered information and read books to achieve better results in a one hour recording, it is not necessary to show it off. Preparation is a way of conveying knowledge at the right moment, and if there's no right moment to speak, I won't. I guess that's what I call my "adult-like mind".

Now that I'm an adult, I want to take the things I fantasised about in my child-like mind and make them a reality. For example, I like camping, so I think I'd like to make a tent from scratch~ (laughs).
The first time I felt that "I am an adult" was when I went camping by myself. My parents used to tell me, "You can't go camping until you're 20!" (laughs).
I've loved music and dancing since I was a child, but as I've got older and started to face it as my "job", I've come to love it more.
It's fun to study the structure of a song and get to the bottom of it. I enjoy it more now than when I did it as a hobby.
When I think of what kind of adult I want to be... I want to be someone who can satisfy the "child-like mind" of small children! When I was a child, I liked adults who could give me a good answer when I asked, "Why?", so I also want to be that kind of person, and be able to satisfy someone else's "child-like mind"!
Cross-talk
Hikaru: Do you remember the game we used to play when we were back dancing for KinKi Kids? The one when we were hiding under the stage during the MC? We were playing surgery.
Yabu: Yes (laughs). "I'm going to anaesthetise you" or something like that. In short, it was a game where you lose if you laugh. I remember that.
Hikaru: That! It's been almost 20 years since then (laughs). We have a strange relationship, don't we? We're workmates, rivals, family. I think all those words apply to our relationship.
Yabu: I know what you mean. I think as long as Hikaru is smiling and happy, that's all that matters. It's like I'm watching over him. ...... It's hard to put into words.
Hikaru: Oda Kazumasa-san!
Yabu: That's "I can't put it into words".
Hikaru: Ah, that's it! Yabu understands what I want to say immediately. That's when I feel like we have good company...... Hey Yabu, you're like an old man, aren't you?
Yabu: Oh, I was going to say that too! That Hikaru-kun is an old man. By the way, what do you think of me?
Hikaru: You're kind of refined, and you like to talk about politics and economics, things that grandpas would talk about in depth.
Yabu: I see. Hikaru's grandfatherly side is his slowness and his sudden choking (laughs).
Hikaru: We're different types of grandpa (laughs).
